Phillip O. Berry "Cardinal in Flight"

 

 

POBAA is proud to create the Phillip O. Berry “Cardinal in Flight” Scholarship Fund in partnership with Joy Berry, Phillip O. Berry's daughter, to honor Mr. Berry's legacy for future generations of Cardinals. The Fund will strive to support current Berry Seniors who exemplify academic resilience and determination to continue their studies.

 

For 2025, the POB “Cardinal in Flight” Scholarship Fund will award one (1) scholarship in the amount of $250 per award. The award will be issued as a personal check to the recipient, to be used at the recipient’s personal discretion. Suggestions for award use include but are not limited to books, tuition, transportation, supplies, etc.  NOTE: Scholarship funds will be awarded to the recipient upon evidence of registration in any of the institutions listed under “Criteria and Eligibility”.

 

Criteria and Eligibility 

  1. Applicant must be a current senior at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology.

  2. Applicant must have a 2.0 minimum GPA (or a “C” average)

  3. Applicant must demonstrate personal and academic development during their time at POB and desire to continue their education within but not limited to the following institutions:

    1. Community college

    2. Vocational/ trade school

    3. Military or armed forces

General Instructions

  1. DEADLINE for the scholarship application is April 6th, 2025 at 11:59pm.

  2. Refer to the application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed (i.e., reference forms, evidence of GPA, etc.)  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  3. Type and print legibly. Illegible applications will not be considered.

  4. You will be notified via email by May 1st, 2025 regarding the status of your application.

  5. If you have any questions about the application, please email The Scholarship Committee at pobaa.alumni@gmail.com. Questions will not be accepted after April 6th, 2025.

 

Application Process

Applicant must submit the following items to be considered:

  1. Completed application form

  2. An official and recent high school transcript with cumulative grade point average and a class standing/rank

  3. One (1) letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, administrator, counselor, employer, or individual with significant knowledge of the applicant's experience and involvement.

  4. Personal Essay. Essay must be 500 words max, double-spaced, 12 pt / Arial font.

Essay shall contain no grammatical errors. Answer the following prompt:

 

“Describe your personal growth during your time at Phillip O. Berry. 

What lessons have you learned moving forward?”
